Meet Sowmya

Hi! I’m Sowmya, the founder of Toddlers Love to Cook. It all began with my love for spending time with my then 18-month old son. I wanted to create fun, shared moments in the kitchen: something playful, hands-on, and filled with laughter. As a first time mother, it was overwhelming to find ideas that was fun for us to do together, especially at home, in the kitchen.
So I created Toddlers Love to Cook to help other parents do the same. Whether you join a class or just try a free recipe, know that I’m cheering you on! I wanted to use Montessori and other early education ideas with my professional experience as a Lean Practitioner, which brings you the combination of simplified steps, tips to foster independence while enabling a safer and less stressful environment for you as the parent.

Why Does Cooking with Kids Matters

Cooking with toddlers? It’s so much more than just a cute photo op for your Instagram feed!
When you’re stirring and measuring together, those tiny hands are getting stronger and learning skills they’ll use forever. Your little one gets to make real choices (blueberries or strawberries in the pancakes?) and feel like the kitchen superstar they are. Plus, watching them carefully pour ingredients and follow recipe steps? That’s learning in action, friend.
Here’s the magic part – kids who cook are way more likely to actually eat what they’ve made. Suddenly, those “yucky” vegetables become interesting when they’ve washed, chopped, and sprinkled them into the pot themselves. They start asking questions about where carrots grow and why bread rises. Before you know it, they’re brave enough to taste that new sauce because they helped make it.
But honestly? The best part is what happens between you two. In our rush-rush world, cooking together forces us to slow down. To laugh when flour goes everywhere. To celebrate when they crack their first egg (shell pieces and all). It’s connection, one messy, beautiful spoonful at a time.
